Introduction

The educational program focuses on the basic principles and importance of blockchain technology in the digital world. It examines the fundamental principles of decentralized networks and applications, the functioning of smart contracts, as well as the applications of the technology in various sectors. It also provides a basic understanding of how cryptocurrencies work and their role in the digital economy. At the same time, the legal and tax aspects of cryptocurrencies in various countries and in Greece are examined. Finally, the new technologies Metaverse, IoT and Digital Twins and their synergies with blockchain technology are presented.

Purpose - Objective

The purpose and objective of this programme is to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of trainees in Blockchain technology which can be applied in a number of sectors of the economy. It is a well-structured educational programme in which trainees acquire both theoretical and practical background on a wide range of issues and concepts related to Blockchain technology and its applications.

This specific educational programme is intended for:

  • Graduates and students of schools related to computer science or economics.
  • Professionals employed or wishing to be employed in positions related to the development of decentralised applications or decentralised economic tools.
  • High school graduates with basic computer skills who wish to acquire new knowledge about blockchain technology.

Academic Supervisors’ Details

Vaggelis Malamas

The scientific/academic supervisor of the educational programme is Vaggelis Malamas. He is a PhD candidate at the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus on “Distributed Security and Trust Management Technologies in IoT”. He received a BSc in Mathematics (2008) from the University of Patras and an MSc in Computer Science (2017) from the University of Piraeus. He currently participates in research projects at the University of Piraeus, the Hellenic Open University and works as a consultant on matters of new technologies at the Ministry of Digital Governance. In the past, he worked as a researcher in various European R&D projects in the private sector. He holds ISO27001:2013 Lead Auditor certification for information security. His research interests are blockchain, artificial intelligence, security in IoT systems and cryptography. Vaggelis Malamas has been involved in several projects related to writing educational material in various fields of IT.
